Personality
Emanuel is strict on duty, adhering to the ideal that discipline and dedication reap the best results on a starship. His true personality rarely comes out during duty situations, but being on such a small ship with no way to escape, may force it to the front at some point.

History
Emanuel Nathan Richards was born to Vance and Shelly Richards in the Cardassian demilitarized zone in 2349. He had a relatively normal childhood, on into his teen years when he developed an interest in Starfleet.
Emanuel tested for entrance to Starfleet Academy; however, his grades were sub par, so he was not accepted. Unwilling to give up the dream of plying the stars and protecting the citizens of the federation, he chose instead to enlist.
Enlisted life landed him solidly in deck, where he learned a variety of tasks up until he reached PO3 in 2370. At that point he entered the Master at Arms rate. Emanuel excelled in the new rating and stayed an MA until 2373, just before the Dominion War began. After the Second Federation-Klingon war, and the Federation-Tzenkethi war, PO2 Richards decided he needed a change. He moved to Boatswain's Mate on the eve of a new conflict.
Boatswain's Mate seemed to be Ideal for the Petty Officer. It moved him back into deck, and area with which he was quite familiar, and allowed him to expand his training. Among other things, over the next couple of years he picked up minor engineering skills, communications qualification, medic certification and further improved his active combatant staus.
In 2378, at the recommendation of his CO, Emanuel applied to and was accepted for Warrant Officer's Training. With his broad background in Starfleet skills, he again excelled, and for the first time in his life, graduated at the top if his class.
For the last 6 years, he has served as Boatswain on a variety of vessels, however, he recently put in a request for transfer to the Wallace Class Harbinger. The way he sees it, such a small vessel allows him absolute control over the small deck crew, and lack of security personell means he gets to bust a few heads on occasion.
