Jessica Hornsby's Romance Novels

Jessica Hornsby (a pen name) is a popular romance novelist who first emerged in 2380 with her debut novel, Adrift in Lust. She went on to pen four more novels before dying under mysterious circumstances. There is rumored to be a sixth novel that is, as yet, unpublished.

All of Jessica's novels end with the hero and heroine parting ways. Critics have argued that this is not satisfying in a romance novel. Fans find this all part of the allure, as the couples usually part for heroic and honourable reasons, making the short-lived romances all the more sweet.

He refused to let her go. He knew she desired him. He would have her, even if it would only be for a short time. They could be stranded for longer, they could eventually die out here. Book 2: A Slave to Duty

After his shuttle crash lands on a planet, Commander Kyle Alexander finds himself stranded on the edge of a primitive civilization. While spying at a distance on his neighbors, he learns of their ways and finds he can't stand by when a young slave girl is attacked by her master. Attraction blossoms into so much more but, when Kyle is rescued, the culture shock is too much for Kalara and, while he loves her deeply, he is duty bound to his ship and crew. He returns Kalara to her people and hopes she can forget him and move on with her now free life.

Extract:
The man who had just killed her master stood over her. He was strange in his dark form-fitting clothing, but Kalara found herself grateful to him. Grateful, but also scared. Did that now mean he was her master and must she please him? Deciding it safest to make a good first impression, she approached him tentatively on all fours. He remained still. Standing proudly before her, eyes fixed on hers as she moved, waiting. This woman he had saved from that thing that had tried to ravage her, held him completely captivated, and it wasn't because she was completely naked. No, it was her deep purple eyes. So sad. So lonely. So empty. As if they needed him...

Book 3: A Time to Cherish

Destiny is a temporal agent from the future, sent back in time to thwart attempts on the life of one Dominic Black. Dominic will one day become one of the Federation's greatest Presidents -- if he lives that long. Destiny believes the assignment to be routine; that is, until she meets the charismatic man who already shows signs of becoming a truly great leader. Knowing the assignment is short term does not help the woman steel her heart against him. It all comes to an end for Destiny when she discovers that another attempt on Dominic's life was made when he was a child. She goes back and stops it, with the knowledge that doing so results in her death.

Extract:
Destiny's heart pounded in her chest as she lowered her weapon. She had discharged it at close range into the body of an assassin who would have killed the man she was ordered to serve and protect. The man she also happened to have fallen desperately in love with. This was her job, vanquishing bad guys from key moments in time in order to preserve the timeline. Falling in love however was not part of that job description. And now that she had carried out her orders, she would have to leave. Return to her own time for debrief. Leave him. Leave the man now looking up at her from his position on his bed. Naked position. Very naked and very aroused...

Book 4: Above all Feeling

Command can be a sad and lonely place, doubly so for Captain Amara Sterling. Putting her personal life and any chance of love aside to achieve her goals, she has been called a bitch on many occasions. What started out as a passionate love triangle ends in a desperate fight to the death.

Book 5: Almost a Kiss

Ensign Adelaide Smith is the shy but determined new nurse on Deep Space Station 111. Lieutenant Commander Scott Beckett is her Executive Officer.
