Personality

A very unlucky young man who, on paper, looks like a prime candidate for Sec/Tac, but once seen in person is significantly underwhelming.

He is an unsure geek with a habit of talking real fast and flinching away from danger. His vast pessimism is only matched by his ability to accept his lousy luck, though not without some grumbling and whining of his own. He had been hazed as a Academy Cadet and as a raw midshipman on the last ship he served on, spooking easy, being a victim of several pranks. He is relatively skittish when faced with tasks requiring physical courage.

Behind a console, operating Tactical Stations, he is more than confident. He is very proficient with modern technology and keeps in touch with his Academy friends through the Hololink. He plays games and runs holographic simulations in the Holosuites as his hobbies. He is not anti-social, though finding a friend his age is hard on Kepler.

History

Raised on Angosia III by his parents, he was allowed a typical childhood in the upper-middle class suburbs of the Capital. He attended a well accredited High School where he excelled in video games and holographic simulations. He submitted his application to the Federation's Starfleet Academy out of "a vast need to experience the scope of the Galaxy and participate in the history changing events in the most civilized and powerful government in the Quadrant", according to his transcript. Very luckily, Starfleet Academy accepted his application and he studied at Beta Aquilae II campus.

"Throughout his high school life, he placed 'very advanced' in the Intramural Wargames during his enrollment in the Future Cadet Corps." This single set of high school credentials have been disastrous for the young man's life once he embarked on an enrollment into Starfleet Academy. Angosians are non-violent intellectuals, the Spokar family are pretty much hereditary computer programmers, but much of what the average Federation layman knows of Angosia are the "super soldiers" of Penal Colony Lunar V, assuming that everyone from that system are genetically and chemically modified myrmidions. The Intramural Wargames are virtual, computer driven simulations of the typical Angosian Remote-piloted machines of war, not actual boots-on-the-ground-guns-blazing wargames. The Future Cadet Corps, while sounding very marshal and prestigious, is more or less a JROTC for kids that play far too many video games. Consistently, because of his resume and much misunderstanding about his culture, and despite his slim build and obvious non-aggressive nature, his requests for studies in Science or Engineering have been shuttled to the Security/Tactical field. As much as he does not want to be part of Sec/Tac he won't transfer out, getting into Starfleet as a non-member species was hard enough, and he doesn't like making waves. So as much as he grumbled about it, he stuck to it.

He stayed at Campus for his Freshman year, then transferred to the Research Vessel, USS Resolution, as a Cadet Trainee with studies under the Assistant Tactical Officer for his Sophomore year. After 12 months there, he boarded the Ares-class USS Eclipse with transfer papers to the Regula-class Outpost, Kepler Station. Taking three months to get there, the USS Eclipse docked at Kepler Station, delivered supplies and hardware, and transferred Cadet Spokar to the mercies of Kepler Station for the second half of his Third Year.

Service Record

  • 2384: Joined Starfleet Academy as a Non-Member Species, entering the Sec/Tac track
  • 2385: Transferred to the Constellation-class USS Resolution as Cadet Trainee with specialization toward Tactical
  • 2386: Transferred to the Regula I-class Kepler Station as Cadet Trainee with specialization toward Tactical

Service on the Kepler

[Arrival of the Eclipse] It has been a particularly difficult first week for Rexus. The ranking officers have seen fit to bring both wings of Sec/Tac to snuff, a measure that Rexus is woefully unprepared for. The physically underwhelming cadet now must join a rigorous Physical Training Regimen led by SWO Ditonio, former Starfleet Marine. After which, he attends holo-transmitted lectures from the Academy and serves his shift under the watchful eye of the Assistant Chief or Gunner's Mate. Later in the evening, he trains in Holographic Combat Simulation with Petty Officer First Class Maidali. He has very little free time.

[Eat Drink and Be Merry] Rexus had been ordered to Escort Captain Knox of the USS Sagan and his family to their quarters. After which he was assigned to "babysit" the two teenaged children of the Captain. Nothing of note happened.

[Tombaugh's Garden] Assigned to escort the Engineering and Sciences away team as Security Detachment. Accompanied Ensign Hideyoshi Shimura to the Archeological site and helped defend against and capture a "possessed" scientist from the Colony.

[Attack of the Giant Orange Floaty Thingy] Was not on duty when the event happened, but held guard over Jad Raynar, occupant of the Brig due to his commandeering of a Station shuttle. Struck up the beginning of a friendship with the Suspended Marine Officer and facilitated a short meeting with Jad and Maxine Gaius.

[Freud's Hostage] Was rudely interrupted by the Dalliance's explosion and took it upon himself to make contact with the closest member of Command. Found a Sanitation Engineer name Vyrs and crawled into the innards of Kepler to get to the Arboretum where he found that the Commanding Officer, the Executive Officer, and her teenage roommate were stolen by Bajoran Terrorists. Finding Indigo, Violet's pet gecko, he made his way up to the Treehouse Lounge where he rallyed the crew of the Dalliance. Rexus soon joined with the other Senior Officers and joined in the multi-staged attack to take back the Station and rescue the Command Team and Violet.

Rexus and Violet on a "date"

[Long walk off a short Planck] After the events of Freud's Hostage, Rexus visited Violet and attempted to cheer her up after her terrible ordeal at the hands of the terrorists. The psuedo-date gave him delusions of grandeur and he began asking others advice as to how to initiate and maintain a relationship while juggling a Starfleet Career, Youthful hormones, and a possible protective Father. Dex Maidali, Halley Grayson, and Hideyoshi Shimura all gave various points of view which helped bolster his decision, but it all evaporated with the knowledge that Violet's friend Cassiopeia Yale had lost her child during the Disaster. Finding Violet and taking her to go see her friend, Rexus kept a watchful eye on them both.

[Honey I'm Holme] Kepler Station had fallen through a rift in the time/space continuum taking Rexus five months into the future. Contacting his family on Angosia, he was less than thrilled to find that his father and sister didn't care and his mother only wanted to ask some questions so she could write about time-crossed lovers. Once the Endeavor docked, Rexus met Violet's father, Harrison Matthews, and said some more than public things about his daughter. One misunderstanding led to another and just when Rexus thought everything was going alright, Violet dumped him and Harrison threw him into a couple of bulkheads. Intent on giving Violet some space, he focused more on becoming more mature and less foolish, relying more on Cassiopeia Yale (his and Violet's mutual friend) to help him through.

[The Donkey's Brahe] Lieutenant Reynolds takes the Cadets from the docked starship Endeavor and Kepler Station on a routine training cruise with the Wallace-class Patrol Boat Harbinger. Grumpy and emotional from his last few days, Rexus is less than social in his interaction with the other young trainees. Immediately, he and Zach Eastman begin to chafe each other. Rexus also steals a hypospray during a tense moment and it leads to a dangerous altercation with a flirty and violent co-ed by the name of Hana Gable. He eventually confesses to Bianca Shallen and the command crew, who intend on dealing with him after the cruise is over. However, in the confines of the cadet bunkroom, trouble stirs as they youngsters play a quick and dirty game of strip poker, including some embarrassing dares. The Harbinger runs into a stealthed satellite, prompting Reynolds to order Rexus and a few others to attempt to investigate. It turns out to be a trap and together with Phoebe Paean, they manage to disarm it and get back to the boat. Finding out that Cassi, Rexus' civilian friend has been injured during her away mission, he finds he has issues with dealing with his emotions.

[The Fibonacci Man] Back on Kepler, Rexus attempts to make amends with himself and his friends. After a quick lesson in dancing with Dex Maidali, he gets some psychological counseling from Hide Shimura, and visits Violet. Agreeing to remain friends, Violet accepts his little keepsake. Checking in on Cassi, Rexus suggests they hang out together, which leads to including Violet, Zach, Bianca, Phoebe, Phillip, and Kirsten. Some awkward moments occur between Cassi and Rexus, which leads to Cassi running away to the safety of her room. The young Angosian tries to bring Violet to help console the doctor, but they end up sleeping outside Cassi's door together.
