The Uromastyx was originally a patrol ship used by Gorn military in the early to mid twenty-fourth century. The unique Gorn design featured four nacelles, allowing the craft to maintain higher warp speeds for longer periods of time. The double hulled craft was originally meant for the crew quarters and mess to be mostly separate from the tactical systems. Once the ship had reached the end of its expected lifespan, the hull was retired, despite the fact that the craft was still space worthy, thanks to Gorn tendencies to make very strong hulls. The ship was placed in a salvage field and stripped of most of its systems.
The ship was purchased in 2383 by S’lithik. He had managed to save enough credits to purchase the craft and refit it. Since the ship was mostly empty, he was free to arrange it however he pleased. With this in mind, one half of the ship remained empty, while the former command module had a single suite added. With the addition of modern computer systems, the majority of the ship was automated, allowing for S’lithik to operate it alone. A number of disrupter cannons were added for defense and a single photon torpedo launcher remains from the original configuration. However, because of local arms regulations, the captain does not maintain a stock of the weapons. Despite the fairly light armament, the ship is a match for most small pirate craft and even some military vessels. Most of the refit that was carried was done with military hardware a generation out of date. While this makes the ship unremarkable in most respects, it does place it in forefront of freighter technology. The large, empty section of the ship serves as a very useful cargo hold which has climate control and stasis field generators, which allows for the transport of fresh foods.
