Born in Athens, Georgia, Samantha is the youngest and adopted child and of James Grayson and Fiona McMullen-Grayson,MD. Both driven individuals who devoted their careers to Starfleet, sacrificing time with their daughters to serve the federation and the cause they believed in, retiring as a Captain & Lt. Commander, just as their daughters careers were beginning.
Growing up Sam and her older sister Jania spent their early childhood and teenage years on their Maternal Grandparents farm in Athens, Georgia on earth, spending summers with their parents on whatever vessel James & Fiona were serving on at the time.
Sam flourished in school, excelling in math and science and would often be found with a book in hand when not doing chores or following her Grandmother, also a Doctor, on her rounds at the local clinic and hospital, doing the same thing when with her mother on a starship, at first doing so in order to become closer to her mother, who she has a strained relationship with, but soon falling in love with the profession herself, the older she became.
During her time at the academy Sam did well in her studies, signing up for advanced classes and exploring every option medical provided, spending more time with a text book then her classmates, which in many cases, alienated her from her peers and gave Sam a reputation as being stuck up.
She would later in her second year, become friends with her roommate, Bridget O'Malley's girlfriend, Cadet Aurelia Juarez, who would, along with Cadets O'Malley, Toran and Nora Reagan, the later who was Sam's tutor in her Engineering Extension classes, pull Sam out of her shell.
Cadet Reagan introduced Samamtha to fellow Engineering Cadet Andrew Winslow, who Sam would would eventually fall in love with after realizing the one person she had fallen for, would never see her for anything other then a friend. Andrew and Samamtha would become inseparable during their remaining time at the Academy, going to and on many of the same activities and cadet cruises before graduating with honors and serving aboard the USS Tribune together, Andrew in Engineering, Sam in Sickbay.
While on the Tribune, Sam experienced her first heartbreak, during a battle in which the ship sustained heavy damage, there was an explosion in engineering and Andrew was killed, caught in the blast as one of the secondary power circuits malfunctioned. His death sent the young doctor into a time of depression, where she poured everything she could into her work, often taking a larger patient load in sickbay then normal.
Since then she has become quiet again, does not socialize much outside her department, somewhat keeps in contact with a few of her friends from the academy, but not often enough to be consistent.
Her most recent assignment on Starbase Valhalla has been good for Sam, under the guidance of the chief medical officer Cmdr. Kate Winslow, Andrews older sister, Sam has learned much and grown not only as a doctor but as an individual as well, earning her promotion to assistant chief medical officer of the station just after serving there a year, working hard along side her fellow medical officers in the department, all who deserved the coveted spot of second in command of the department.
Since arriving at Kepler, Samantha has reconnected with two old academy friends also stationed there, one on a more personnel level as Aurelia Juarez, who had captured Sams heart years ago, but due to Juarez being in a relationship at the time, Sam kept her feelings to herself, taking on the role of friend instead. Now however, the stars seemed to be in alignment as Sam and Aurelia have begun dating after reconnecting on Kepler.
After surviving the asteroid strike on the station, Samantha and her girlfriend Aurelia decided that if the physical binds of Samantha's stress induced odd Pon Farr were going to tie them together mentally, they should follow the same path with their hearts, bodies and souls as well. They married in a small private ceremony in Keplers Arboretum, with Captain Bakyr officiating.
