Midway-Class Station

Nearing the end of the 2370's there had been a distinct lack of development of new classes of vessels and installations specifically designed for the purpose of long-term exploration. However as memories of the Dominion War faded and the triumphant return of the U.S.S. Voyager from their seven year sojourn in the Delta Quadrant rekindled the spirit of adventure, something of a renaissance began to occur within Statfleet.

Springing from this period of refreshment, and much like the tried-and-true Regula spaceframes, the Midway-class was designed to be reconfigurable for a vast number of functions. Key amongst those functions being rest and refuelling for vessels setting out on long-term missions which may require them to be outside the range of Federation assistance for prolonged amounts of time. The first of this new class was constructed in 2379 and deployed along the border of the Delta Quadrant to aid in the various projects to be carried out there over the next decade (Star Trek: Borg Invasion 4D).
